Students were engaged in  learning about the impact of media on the decisions of people.
They were grouped according to their reading levels and were given handouts and photographs and use a "Visible Thinking" tool THINK,PUZZLE AND EXPLORE to present their thinking.

It was very interesting as they reflected that the learning engagement allowed them to think deeply about Media and helped them to make positive decisions with the new knowledge they acquired.

August 14,2013

Students wrote thir reflects on ethics in media after viewing three videos on the topic.
They used the thinking routine WHAT MAKES YOU SAY THAT-INTERPRETATION ROUTINE.
Students also framed their own questions using the Blooms question prompts.

August 16,2013:

Students completed generating their own questions related to the unit of inquiry using a thinking routine called QUESTION STARTS...where they used higher order Bloom's taxonomy question prompts to channelise their questions.

August 19,2013

Students inquired about the role and influence of  favourite media using the reference books and websites.

Students worked in groups to think about the different forms of communication they use. They later created a mindmap.

August 21,2013

Students created concept maps on the different types and roles of media in their UOI thinking logs.
Later through a class discussions ETHICS was discussed using different case studies as examples and students were asked Why do they think that Ethics is valuable in life?

August 22,2013

Students worked on formative assessment.

            GUEST SPEAKER REPORT

Today, on August 30 2013 the grade 6 of Aga Khan Academy, Hyderabad students had a guest speaker for their unit media. On the second line of inquiry, which was the role of language, arts and music in media and the guest speaker was  Mrs.Alamelu Swaminathan who was accompanied by her husband. She was about 72 years old and her husband is of around 82 years old & she told us about music.

First she told us to sing our favourite song which had been taught to us. We sang our song “Zara sun tujein dharti pukarein” Then she told us about the different types of music and what their uses are. She also gave us interesting facts about music which she had been experienced.  She was polite to us and every moment she allowed us to ask questions and she was very busy explaining about music about her career she was behaving like our friend which was looking very nice to me. She didn't even look at teachers she was like someone from our friends is telling us about the music and other thing.

After a while she told us interesting and true facts which looked like she would now sing one of those & she actually sang it. She had a music box that was put on a low pitch . She sang it so well that, I don't

know about others but my mouth was wide opened with appreciation.

As she was going to end her session the grade 5 students of AKAH came and once again  she sang the song for them. She told them the same facts and some new facts which I didn't know. At last it was time for her to go and we gave her a thank you card which was from our side and that’s how the session ended.

Field trip report to The National Institute of Amateur Radio
On 27th August, 2013, the Grade 6 A and K went to the National Institute of Amateur Radio, NIAR near Somajiguda. We went there for our unit Media. We went there to learn about radio, which is a mode of communication. We left the school at 10 'o clock. We went there through a bus.

First the guide, Mr Jose showed us a video on their organization.  We learnt many new facts on radio. We learnt about the inventor, Marconi.  The people who are in the organization should be above 12 years.  The trained people then teach a syllabus of radio to the people. The training takes 2 or more months. Later on, we learnt about HAM, which are Hertz, Armstrong and Marconi. Then, Mr. Jose answered our questions and he answered all the questions properly. Eventually, we learnt on walkie-talkies. Meanwhile Mr. Jose was explaining, snacks were served..

Subsequently, we went around the campus into a small museum where we saw a variety of radios and walkie-talkies.  We saw the official radio used by Mr. Rajiv Gandhi. Moving ahead, we went to the Wireless museum room which had plenty of transmitters and receivers. After that, we were divided into 2 groups and the people demonstrated how to use walkie- talkies. We each got a chance to speak in the walkie-talkie.

Finally, we boarded the bus and ate our lunch, which was really delicious.  We reached school at 2:00 pm. Through this field trip, I learnt amazing facts on radio and their organization. It was a really interesting and knowledgeable field trip.

Students conducted experiments on properties of sound and completed their observation report in the UOI books.

EXPERIMENT REPORT-1
This is the lab report of the first experiment grade 6k did. This experiment’s main aim was to find the different properties of sound and test which chemical tube would give more sounds by tapping. In this experiment, we had to tap chemical tubes with different amounts of water and tap them and observe the different sounds. Now I am going to explain this experiment in detail to you.
First, I thought that many different sounds would come out by tapping the different tubes because of vary of amount of water. This was my first guess. I thought that the one with more water gives more sound when tapped. Further in the report, you’re going to see whether my guess was correct or not.
The materials used in this experiment were:
·         Test tubes
·         Water
·         Pencil, scale and any metallic object to tap the test tubes.                              Procedure
·         First, we should take three chemical tubes
·         Second, we should fill them with water with exact measurement like 3/4th, 2/4th and 1/4th of water in each chemical tube.
·         Next, we should tap the chemical tubes gently with a tapping material of any kind.
Through this experiment, I observed that the different chemical tubes give different sounds when tapped. My guess was wrong because as I thought, the chemical tube with the highest amount of water would give more sound, but the one with the least amount of water gave more sound.
I discovered that the one with the least amount of water gave more sound because the atoms in it can move free and hit the chemical tube so that more sound can be produced.
Through this experiment, I came to know about the different properties of sound.
