UNIT OF INQUIRY -EXPLORATIONS

Our 3rd Unit of Inquiry is titled ‘Exploration’ under the transdisciplinary theme of “Where We Are in Place and Time”. In this unit, students will research early and modern methods of land, marine, aeronautic, and space navigation. Navigation is the process of monitoring or controlling the movement of a craft or vehicle from one place to another.

Students will identify the reasons why people feel compelled to explore the unknown. They will investigate the influence of exploration on people’s lives and how these innovations have impacted progress in the past, present, and future. Additionally, students will analyze the different types of development and use of navigational tools, such as maps, charts, compasses, radar, satellites, and GPS (Global Positioning System). The purpose of using a navigation tool is to decide on a present position and then determine the speed, direction etc. to arrive at the port or point of the destination. Explorations on Earth, in space, and in the solar system will be examined.

            Students will have an opportunity to take a field trip, as well as listen to guest speakers talk about the role of navigational tools in exploration and its impact on the world. Students will collate data and present it. Also, they will create posters about different navigational tools and highlight their function and impact on the world. The students will have many opportunities to continue to develop transdisciplinary skills. Further details of the unit are mentioned below:
